It depends on what the AI has to do. Automating a process, researching your own model and licensing a ready-made platform are different projects. Pick one, ask to see the AI working on real data, and ask what it does when it gets something wrong and what it costs each month. The five companies, and who each one suits, are below.
SEIRO, one of the five companies, wrote this guide. It doesn't cover AI tools you subscribe to on your own, such as a chatbot subscription. What SEIRO uses today, and what it has dropped, is in how we use AI.
The agencies
We chose these five companies with four criteria:
- They have a base or an office in Barcelona, according to their own site.
- They have AI in production and clients, collaborators or cases you can check.
- They cover different needs: custom automation, large-enterprise projects, research, healthcare and ready-made platforms.
- Each profile is based on the company's own site: what it says about itself, with no third-party opinions.
Eurecat
Eurecat is a technology centre with more than 600 staff and more than 1,900 client companies. Its Applied Artificial Intelligence unit builds algorithms, digital twins, virtual sensors and real-time decision systems for industry, energy and sustainability. It has taken part in more than 150 European H2020 and Horizon Europe projects and coordinated more than 100. Collaborators named on its site include Suez, Naturgy, Celsa Group, Codorniu and the Catalan Water Agency.
A fit if: need applied research: your own algorithms, industrial digital twins or a partner for a European R&D project.
Inbenta
Inbenta was founded in Barcelona in 2005 with a focus on natural language processing. It is now headquartered in Texas and keeps an office in Barcelona. Its Inbenta Encore platform covers conversational assistants, AI agents, voice, enterprise search and live-chat agent assist, with more than 850 integrations. Mediktor
Mediktor is an AI healthcare assistant created by doctors, offering a symptom checker and an AI medical agent, also as white-label software. It works in 18 languages and 35 countries, and its site shows ISO 13485 certification. Names it cites include AXA, Sanitas, DKV, MAPFRE and Top Doctors, and its first clinical trial was at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

It has been in Spain for 30 years and in Barcelona for more than 25, and says about 4,000 people work at its Barcelona office in the 22@ district. Barcelona hosts the European base of its AI centre of excellence and the NTT DATA Living Lab, where clients such as Endesa have explored AI projects. Its public cases include generative AI for infrastructure with Ferrovial and Spain's Carpeta Ciudadana.
A fit if: are a large enterprise or public body that has an AI project that needs hundreds of people and large-company procurement.
SEIRO
SEIRO is a software engineering studio based in Barcelona, made up only of senior software engineers. It has worked for clients since 2023 and was incorporated in 2025. It builds AI automation and custom agents, as well as software, apps and web platforms, mainly for SMEs and startups. It publishes on its site which AI tools it uses in its own work and which it drops. Its clients include Delivery Mates, Vibrant Skin and Electia.

How to choose
- Start with what the AI has to do. Automating a process, researching your own model and licensing a ready-made platform are different projects.
- Pick one process and measure it. Start with one, with a result you can check, and go from there.
- Ask what happens when it gets something wrong. What it does when it isn't sure, and who reviews its decisions.
- Ask what it costs each month. Not only to build it, but to keep it running.
- Check before you sign: ask to see the AI working on real data, not a demo.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best AI companies in Barcelona?
There's no single best one: it depends on what the AI has to do. Ask to see it working on real data, not a demo, ask who reviews its decisions and what it costs each month, and talk to their clients. This guide has five companies and who each one suits.
Custom AI or a licensed platform?
A licensed platform suits a standard case, such as customer service, where configuring it is enough. Custom pays off when the AI has to work with your data, your rules and the systems you already use, such as the ERP, the CRM or the bank.
What should I ask an AI company before signing?
Where that AI runs today on real data; what it does when it isn't sure and who reviews its decisions; what it costs each month once it's running, not just to build; and who owns the code and the data at the end.
How long does an AI automation project take?
A first, well-scoped process is usually running within weeks, not months. What stretches a project most is starting with too many processes at once, so pick one, measure it and go from there.
